BL A DE R U N N E R.. The'birds chess set' was seen in J. Sebastian's apartment, in the classic 1982 BLADE RUNNER sci-fi film. The genetically engineered replicant, Roy Batty was very intrigued by Sebastian's chess game. It is based on a famous real-life chess match, the "Immortal Game". Some of the themes and layers in BLADE RUNNER were intertwined by chess-like strategies, with references relating to mortality, power, fear, courage, humanity.... Sebastian's birds chess set from BLADE RUNNER. Produced by the'Red Dragon Kipple Company' created by Rick L. Ross is a talented pro-craftsman & passionate BLADE RUNNER enthusiast, based in the USA.

Exquisitely detailed full set of 32 chess bird pieces, hand-crafted & hand-painted includes a unique "aged & weathered" Wood Crate. These chess sets were available for order from year 2011 in a very limited edition size; production ceased many years ago.

Only a very small number of these beautiful chess sets were produced. Sebastian's chess set in the 1982 BLADE RUNNER movie, these chess birds have a wonderful realistic appearance and are full of interesting ambience & brooding character.

The Wood Crate is a great display item, an ideal adjunct to the Birds Chess Set with a style befitting the'world of BLADE RUNNER'. Rick Ross spent a long time dedicated to developing this special version of the birds chess set; a project spanning approximately three years. Extensively researched and designed, the chess pieces were meticulously hand-sculpted in clay with intricate detail. Then moulds were made in order to produce the final chess pieces for release. The production chess pieces are made of a strong composite mix; mineral-filled polymer.

They are'bottom-weighted' and have felt pads affixed to the underside. Quite weighty, solid pieces; the tallest are approx. 4.5 to 5 inches high.

Each piece has its own velvet lined pull-string bag for safe storage inside the Wood Crate. Hand finished & polished, painted Antique Red and a realistic Old Ivory colour, each piece has a small "RR" insignia stamped at the base (Rick Ross) with "08" next to it (year 2008, when the chess pieces were in their developmental and clay-modelling phase).

This Deluxe Crated Birds Chess Set (acquired in 2011) has been carefully looked after by one owner. Briefly displayed under an acrylic plexiglass cover in a dust & smoke free environment; however it has been mostly stored away inside the original box. It is in like new condition ; hence this item is listed as Brand New. A scarce collector's item and a strikingly appealing display piece. QUEEN - Peacock bird CASTLE - Raven / Rook bird KING - Eagle bird. BISHOP - Owl bird KNIGHT - Hawk / Falcon bird PAWN - Wren bird.
