This is a screen-accurate set of the Banbury British Birds chess set as used in Blade Runner in 1982. Sebastian has this chess set in his apartment and Roy Batty uses the game to manipulate Sebastian into taking him to meet his creator Eldon Tyrell. These sets were originally made in the late 1970's by Hoyles in the UK but have been out of production for many years (original sets are now so brittle with age they often fall apart when handled) so this accurate copy was made from original pieces collected over several years. It's in the original ivory and burgundy colours and weathered to match the set in the film.
Some modern sets on offer claim to be screen accurate to the Blade Runner set but have different bases because they are from a completely new sculpt and they use kingfishers as pawns. The original uses only wrens. Sebastian's Birds Chess Set. Hoyles Banbury reproduction" is in sale since Tuesday, May 28, 2019.
